A story about embracing what makes you different—

and discovering that it might be your greatest strength.

Because every kid deserves to feel seen

Written together, this story was inspired by our daughter Avery, who developed vitiligo at a young age. What started with uncertainty slowly became something she learned to embrace—on her own timeline, in her own way.

This book is for kids who are learning how to feel comfortable in their own skin…and for parents who want to support them, even when they don’t always know what to say.

What makes you...YOU! Hardcover book
$20.99

What makes you…YOU! is a heartfelt children’s book about identity, differences, and belonging.

Inspired by the real-life story of our daughter, Avery (now 9), this book was born from her journey with vitiligo, which she developed at age 6. Watching her navigate it - with curiosity, resilience, and eventually confidence - has changed us, too.

Her being the only one in her school with vitiligo has reminded us just how important representation really is. It can feel lonely being the only one who looks different, especially at a young age. We wanted her—and other children—to feel seen, to know they’re not alone, and to grow up appreciating what makes them and the people around them unique.
